Energyone. Unifying a post-M&A trading ecosystem.

An ETRM SaaS provider facing platform fragmentation after a run of acquisitions brought me in to architect one unified trading ecosystem.

Context

Many platforms, one product

Energyone, an Australian publicly traded ETRM, expanded into Europe by acquiring trading platforms in Europe (eZ-energy, EGSSIS) and the UK (Contigo, GMSL).

The problem. Each deal added its own interface, and enTrader, the core platform, hadn't been rebuilt in two decades.

The impact. Onboarding a new account took weeks, support tickets kept growing and churn was rising. Most clients used the API just to avoid the UI.

The mandate. The CTO brought me in directly to lead the product architecture behind the unification.

The process. Agile, in 15-day sprints with product and engineering, from the first research round to the BASF build.

01 · Deliverable

Research and architecture with product

14 interviews with clients and internal stakeholders, plus 3 working sessions to map friction points across every platform.

The synthesis fed a single navigation architecture, validated with product and engineering.

The architecture call. Engineering ruled out a full rebuild, so I proposed microfrontends per platform on one shared design system: each platform integrates on its own timeline instead of being rebuilt from scratch.

02 · Deliverable

Design system and market unification

One design system for enTrader and the acquired platforms, connected through Tailwind so every market speaks the same visual and interaction language.

I delivered the full design system and the three most complex enTrader screens, architected to extend into a multi-platform shell as eZ-energy and the other platforms come online.

03 · Deliverable

AI pilot: a custom build for BASF

In parallel, I helped lead the squad building a custom version for BASF, testing AI-assisted development against a control team working the traditional way.

Claude Code and Figma MCPs took the design system from Figma to coded components, documented in Storybook, over six months of two-week sprints.

than the control team, building the pages, the navigation and the Storybook implementation of the design system.

At handoff, the design system and the BASF build were validated and handed to engineering, in staging. Production rollout and its OpEx impact land after that point, outside my window on the project.
